Choosing Between DC600V and DC1000V Solar Combiner Boxes

DC600V solar combiner boxes are generally suitable for residential and small commercial PV systems with shorter strings. DC1000V models are commonly used for larger commercial rooftop and ground-mounted arrays with higher string voltages.

Choose according to the maximum DC voltage of the PV array—not simply the higher rating. The combiner box voltage rating must cover the maximum string open-circuit voltage under the lowest expected site temperature. String count, input current, inverter configuration, and future expansion should also be considered.

Frequent Asked Questions

What is a 4 string combiner box used for?

A 4-string combiner box merges the DC output of four PV strings into a single DC line while providing per-string fuse protection, surge protection, and an output breaker. It reduces home-run cabling and centralizes string-level protection in one IP65 enclosure.

What voltage is the TPX7-P combiner box rated for?

The TPX7-P is rated to DC600V, suited to residential and small commercial PV systems operating within that voltage class.

What protection devices are included in the TPX7-P PV combiner box?

The TPX7-P includes per-string fuses (10A–30A), an output DC MCB (32A or 63A), and a Type 2 surge protective device rated 20kA nominal (In) / 40kA maximum (Imax) with a 2.2kV voltage protection level.

Can the fuse and MCB ratings be customized?

Yes. Per-string fuses are available from 10A to 30A and the output MCB in 32A or 63A. TYPLE also offers OEM customization of string count, connectors (MC4 or PG), and branding.

Is the TPX7-P suitable for outdoor installation?

Yes. The enclosure is rated IP65 and IK10 for dust, water, and impact resistance, and operates in temperatures from –25°C to +60°C, making it suitable for outdoor wall mounting.

What does “4 string” mean on a solar combiner box?

A 4 string solar combiner box accepts up to four PV string inputs and combines them into a protected output circuit. The string currents are combined, while the system voltage does not increase.
